Reachout Centre Trust is a Civil Society Organization founded in 2003; the main mandate is to offer prevention and intervention services for Key Populations through outreach services, counseling, advocacy, reintegration and treatment of drug abuse and HIV infections.
Over the past few years, Reachout Centre Trust has maintained a good working relationship with the media fraternity in highlighting the drug menace not only in the Coast but Kenya at large; we acknowledge and appreciate the effort and support they have offered us in combating this menace.
A lot would not be possible today in our intervention without the support accorded to us by the Media community, through which we have managed to inform the public on the challenges faced by this population through the numerous stories published over the years.
This year the Harm Reduction Media Awards event has been adopted under the theme “Support Don’t Punish” in order to turn the spotlight on harm reduction by strengthening the mobilization capacity of affected communities and their partners through raising awareness among the media and the public.
The event provides an opportunity for the community to connect with Journalists and recognize those who have supported them along the way. The key focus is in recognizing the outstanding work of Journalists in highlighting the issues of Drug and Substance Abuse with a specific emphasis on Harm Reduction and Drug Policy Reforms.
