Required Qualifications:

Trained in RESPECT – K and other KP related Evidence Based Intervention
(EBIs).

Has undergone trainings in Key Populations programming

The objective of this position is to ensure that all RCT programme data is entered, updated and
analyzed in order to inform decision making. The position holder will work closely with
programme staff in order to accurately document activity outputs to enhance efficiency of

Frequent updating of cohort register, using HTS registers.

 Ensuring quality and accurate recording of data for different projects.

SOCIAL WORKER

Job Purpose/Objective

REACHOUT CENTER TRUST with funding from Global Fund (GF) through Kenya Red Cross
Society (KRCS) implements the key population HIV prevention program for PWID Mombasa
County – Coast region of Kenya.

Working closely with other key program staff with direct supervision from the program manager
RCT, the key objective of the Social Worker
assists in provision of social interventions and
assistance to the most at risk and vulnerable beneficiaries. The Social Worker will report directly
to the Programme Coordinator. This will be done through carrying out assessments, casework
and case management including follow-ups to ensure beneficiaries are receiving the services
allocated and track the impact of the assistance provided to beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities

Project Implementation, Monitoring & Reporting.

 Establish therapeutic rapport with key population with a view to offer individualized and
group counseling within the DIC and during outreach activities.
 Sensitize, problem solve, dialogue and mediate with the key population about issues of
trauma, GBV any other related psychosocial issues
 In collaboration with the other healthcare providers in the DIC, the psychosocial
counselor will implement KP EBIs e.g Respect K, SHIELD and any other nationally
approved EBI.
 Establishes course of action by exploring options; setting goals and following up with
KPs on safe sexual or injection practices.
 Supports service completion for the KPs by referring him/her to other community
resources, arranging for appointments, and establishing rapport with other agencies.
 Strengthen the existing referral systems with other stakeholders.
 Interpret client’s attitudes and patterns of behavior; explaining and pointing out new/
available options.
 Maintains record of case by documenting client’s situation and client’s own actions.
 Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; participating in quality
reviews; reporting needed changes.
 Maintains client confidence and protects ethical considerations by keeping information
confidential.
 Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
 Develop and share service delivery reports, lessons learnt and best practices on monthly
basis.

 Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

 Have at least Diploma in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community
Development or any other related discipline from a reputable institution of higher
learning

 Experience with gender-based violence highly desirable.

Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary/multi-disciplinary team desirable.

Core competences and skills
 Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and needs.
 A team player.

Working knowledge of English and Swahili.
 Experience in working as a counsellor or ability to be an empathic counsellor.

Knowledge of local area and community structures desirable.
 Able to work with minimum supervision.
